How to Draw Lily of the Valley

Step 1

The lily of the valley flower has a wonderfully delicate structure and consists of many small, bell-shaped flowers on a stem surrounded by large leaves.

We’ll begin this tutorial on drawing a lily of the valley by starting with some of these little flowers.

Each flower bud will be smooth and rounded where it joins the stems, but the outer edge will be sharper and more pointed.

First, we will draw three of these little flowers, each standing on a thin, curved stem. As shown in the reference image, we’ll also start drawing the bottom part of the main stem along with the first few leaves,

Once you are happy with implementing our example, you can proceed to step 2 to Draw Lily of the Valley!

Step 2

We mentioned in the previous step that this flower has small buds with big leaves, and we will add the leaves to your lily of the valley drawing in the next step.

To draw these leaves, we will use some curved, rounded lines to draw the left leaf, which is behind some of the buds we’ve already drawn.

This leaf is curled at the top; you can add some line detail for the leaf veins.

We’ll add another small bud on a thin stem above the others you’ve drawn and then use some rounded lines with vein detail for another leaf to Draw Lily of the Valley.

Step 3

In this part of our How to Draw a Lily of the Valley guide, we will finish the leaf on the right side of the picture.

We will use a few more slightly curved lines that extend up and in to form the pointed tip of the leaf you started in step 2.

Don’t forget to draw the midline of the spine and veins of this leaf as well to Draw Lily of the Valley!

Then we add two more small buds that, like the others, sit on thin curved stems.

Step 4

The next parts of this lily of the valley drawing are all about finalizing the structure of the flower before the final step of coloring your artwork.

In this fourth step, we make it easy as all you have to do is stretch the central stem and then attach another small bud to the thin stem. Now that we’ve added this, bud let’s move on to some final details in the next part to Draw Lily of the Valley.

Step 5

Now we’re ready to put the finishing touches on your picture in this fifth step of our guide on drawing a lily of the valley! To finish, add two more buds on top of the flower.

Just like the others, these will each stand on a thin stem. These form the top of this particular flower and are the final details we will draw before the final step.
